Shane Keith Warne known as Shane Warne The man who in 2000 was rated among the five greatest cricketers of the 20th century was, in 2006, bowling better than ever. Shane Keith Warne was born 13 September 1969, in Ferntree Gully, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Shane Keith Warne is a former Australian international cricketer who is widely regarded as the greatest leg spin bowler in the history of cricket. He took a Test hat-trick, won the Man-of-the-Match prize in a World Cup final and was the subject of seven books. He was the first cricketer to reach 700 Test wickets. His ball that gazoodled Mike Gatting in 1993, bouncing outside leg stump and cuffing off, is unanimously esteemed the most famous in history. He took over 1000 international wickets (in Tests and One-Day Internationals)—he was the second bowler to reach this milestone after Muttiah Muralitharan.Shane Warne has an extraordinary batting record too! He has scored a total of 3154 runs, Warne also scored over 3000 Test runs, and he holds the record for most Test runs without a century.and he is third on the list for scoring the highest number of ducks. His highest score is 99.


He had an undistinguished debut, taking 1/150 nd recording figures of 1/228 in his first Test series. His poor return continued in the first innings against Sri Lanka at Colombo in the next year, in which he recorded 0/107. Things changed against Sri Lanka in Colombo, the second innings, when he ended up demolishing the opponent taking 3 wickets for 11 runs. Shane Warne became an integral part of the team after the 1992/93 series against West Indies, after he took an amazing 7 wickets for 52 runs.
Many of his most spectacular performances have occurred in Ashes series against England, whose players' inexperience against leg spin bowling made them particularly vulnerable.However, with feats like the famous "Gatting Ball" or "Ball of the Century" which spun sharply and bowled a bemused Mike Gatting in the 1993 Ashes series,

Controversy has dogged the man. The most damning was testing positive for an illegal substance in the World Cup of 2003. It is felt that he took this to overcome a shoulder injury, nagging him for a while. This resulted in him being banned for over two years.


Like any other player, he too has seen his nightmares, Sachin Tendulkar, being one of them. The series, in India, the year 1998, saw this legendry spin bowler at his worst. Warne made his first-class cricket debut in 1990-91, taking 0/61 and 1/41 for Victoria against Western Australia at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

• Warne is one of the four Australian cricketers to have been named in "Richie Benaud's Greatest XI" in 2004.
• In 2005 he was named as winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Overseas Personality for his performance in the 2005 Ashes.
• In 2006 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Southampton Solent University for services to cricket.

He retired from international cricket in January 2007, at the end of Australia's 5-0 Ashes series victory over England. Following his retirement from international cricket, Warne played a full season at Hampshire in 2007. Warne signed to play in the Indian Premier League for the Jaipur team, Rajasthan Royals in the first edition of the tournament, where he played the roles of both captain and coach. He led his team to victory against the Chennai Super Kings in a cliffhanger of a final match on 1 June 2008.
