Steve Jobs - the most famous maestro of the micro

on Thursday, October 6, 2011

Steve Jobs co-founded Apple Computers with Stephen Wozniak. Under his guidance, the company pioneered a series of revolutionary technologies including the iPhone and iPad. His innovative idea of what a personal computer should be led him to revolutionize the consumer computer hardware and software industry. When Jobs was twenty one, he and a friend, Steve Wozniak, built a personal computer that they called the Apple. The Apple changed people's idea of what a computer should be.

Thanks to the Apple, people's image of computers changed from being a gigantic and inscrutable mass of vacuum tubes only used by big business and the government to a small box used by ordinary people. No company has done more to democratize the computer and make it user-friendly than Apple Computer. Steve Jobs software design for the Macintosh introduced the windows interface and the mouse which set a new standard for graphical interface applications and interface interaction.

Jobs has earned a listing in the Guinness World Records as the “Lowest Paid Chief Executive Officer” because of his yearly salary officially being $1 for tax reasons, but he is very well compensated for his efforts with lucrative executive gifts such as a $90 Million jet.

Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco, California on February 24 1955. Jobs has always been an intelligent and innovative thinker, his youth was riddled with frustrations over formal schooling. After high school, Jobs enrolled at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. In 1976, when Jobs was just 21, he and Wozniak started Apple Computers in the Jobs family garage. Jobs and Wozniak are credited with revolutionizing the computer industry by democratizing the technology and making the machines smaller, cheaper, intuitive, and accessible to everyday consumers.

In 2008, iTunes became the second biggest music retailer in America-second only to Wal-Mart. Half of Apple's current revenue comes from iTunes and iPod sales, with 200 million iPods sold and six billion songs downloaded. For these reasons, Apple has been rated No. 1 in America's Most Admired Companies, and No. 1 amongst Fortune 500 companies for returns to shareholders.

In 2003, Jobs discovered he had a neuroendocrine tumor, a rare but operable form of pancreatic cancer. Instead of immediately opting for surgery, Jobs chose to alter his pescovegetarian diet while weighing Eastern treatment options. In 2004, he had a successful surgery to remove the pancreatic tumor.

Time named the computer as the 1982 "Machine of the Year" the magazine published a long profile of Steve as - the most famous maestro of the micro.

Steve Jobs passed away on October 5th, 2011 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Steve Jobs, who transformed the worlds of personal computing, music and mobile phones, He changed the way movies are made, the way music is sold, the way stories are told, the very way we interact with the world around us. He helped us work, and gave us new ways to play. He was a myth made man.
