Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is an American computer scientist, software developer and philanthropist best known for creating the social networking site Facebook, of which he is CEO and president.For connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them, for creating a new system of exchanging information and for changing how we live our lives, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is TIME's 2010 Person of the Year. Zuckerberg is part of the last generation of human beings who will remember life before the Internet, though only just. He was born in White Plains, New York (May 14, 1984) to Karen , a psychiatrist, and Edward, a dentist. Zuckerberg was raised Jewish, including having his bar mitzvah when he turned although he has since described himself as an atheist. He Didn’t finish University in Harvard University.

History of Facebook

Almost seven years ago, in February 2004, when Zuckerberg was a 19-year-old sophomore at Harvard, he started a Web service from his dorm. It was called Thefacebook.com, and it was billed as “an online directory that connects people through social networks at colleges.” The idea for Facebook came from his days at Phillips Exeter Academy which, like most colleges and prep schools, had a long-standing tradition of publishing an annual student directory with headshot photos of all students, faculty and staff known as the “Facebook” named for the annual publication that collegiate upper classmen use to identify attractive freshmen girls with low self-esteem. At the time, Zukerberg planned to offer the service only to students within the Ivy League, because, as is widely known, Ivy League students have long had problems finding ways to network with one another. Now, This year, Facebook added its 550 millionth member.

Facebook has merged with the social fabric of American life, and not just American but human life: nearly half of all Americans have a Facebook account, but 70% of Facebook users live outside the U.S. It's a permanent fact of our global social reality. If Facebook is considered a country, its population is currently world ranked third after China and India. One in 12 people in the world use Facebook. They communicate in various languages, up to 75 languages, and spent 700 million minutes per month on Facebook. The number of users is still increasing with the growth rate of 700,000 people per day. Zuckerberg began programming when he sat in high school at Phillips Exeter Academy .

In 2006, Yahoo! executives offered to purchase Facebook for $1 billion. Zuckerberg, then in his early 20s, turned the offer down, instead selling a small portion of the company to Microsoft for a mere $240 million dollars, which suggests an overall company value of $15 billion. Many young people might, based on those reasons alone, label Zuckerberg a dick. Zuckerberg is actually a dick for several other, more legitimate reasons. Facebook also reject a competing offer from online search leader Google Inc.unlike the two reigning Web 2.0 titans that have sold out to major corporations: MySpace accepted $580 million to join News Corp., and YouTube took $1.5 billion from Google.
