As you travel, the more you will realize how little you have seen the world. It says 74 - year-old German Gunther Holtorf. When the Berlin wall fell in 1989, a former German airline executive Gunther Holtorf and his wife Christine left Germany in their 85-horsepower diesel Mercedes G Wagen called “Otto”, an 18-month tour of Africa. Except the trip didn’t last 18-months, it has lasted 23 years, spanned more than 200 countries and the G-Wagen now has 800,000 kilometers, or 500,000 miles, on its odometer. (the equivalent of 20 times around the planet). He did not even make the death of Christine, that she's sadly gone begging her husband in 2010 to continue his journey.
He’s gone half a million miles with no sponsorships, no social media, no blog, and no breakdowns His travels are simple, and he's never announced his plans on a website. Gunther plans to retire from his travels next year and leave Otto to rest in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.
